The Thope Foundation

In 2014 The Thope Foundation participated in the #Imnot Campaign showing some of the issues that young girls in South Africa are coping with. Several girls gave words relating to how their appearances are judged racially ('yellow bone', 'coconut') or physically ('big nose', 'big mama') as well as how they are frequently labelled foolish or stupid. Girls explained how they feel when called these words but they also displayed resistance calling people out  for using harmful language.

"Thope Foundation is committed to the vision of supporting girls to stay in schools, access to information in safe and caring environments, while tackling the challenges at every level in the provision of quality education. We believe in opening dialogues aimed to understand vulnerability, safety, health, and support networks available to girls and encourage awareness around these themes. The #Imnot campaign opens up a new channel for these types of dialogues."
